Recognizing
our Holidays
Palm
Sunday
Palm Sunday is held traditionally before
the Easter weekend, and is recognized as a time to recognize
the miracles of Christ during the time he walked the earth.
Palms are also handed out at this service.
Ten
Brae Service
The Ten Brae service is usually held in
the early evening of Good Friday. It is a deeply moving service
that helps us review God's plan for the world as a whole,
and Christ's special role in that plan for us. Take a walk
through the Bible and see the light, and realize the darkness
of losing Christ on the cross at the end.
Easter
Sunday
A celebration of fresh, new beginnings!
Of a risen Christ who lives in our lives through the Holy
Spirit! Realize God's most generous gift by knowing that Christ
is our personal Lord and Savior forever!
Thanksgiving
The Thanksgiving holiday brings tidings
of generosity, and opportunities arise where people can give.
This time of year brings added emphasis on the ministry of
the Food Pantry, and helping to reach out to the community
to share our blessings. Sometimes there are church services
scheduled that welcomes all area church members. Postings
on any scheduled Thanksgiving event will be posted here and
on our calendar.
The
Christmas Season
Two Christmas Eve services are usually scheduled,
one at 7 p.m., and another at 10 p.m.
The Christmas season is also filled with
opportunities to give both inside and outside the church:
Sunday School Children begin planning in
November for Operation
Christmas Child which is part of the Samaritan's
Purse Ministry. They take simple shoe boxes and fill them
with things such as toys, school supplies, hygiene items,
candies and treats. The shoeboxes are then delivered to needy
children around the world! More information will be posted
here about how to make a shoebox in about October or November.
Children's and Adult Musicals are frequently
organized and performed during the month of December that
are uplifting and are filled with joy of the Christmas season!
Church decorating and "take down"
parties are always fun and festive, and gives more opportunities
to get togehter with others for holiday spirit!
The Angel
Tree program is a regular mission every year at Christmas.
It's an outreach ministry for the Prison
Fellowship. A small tree is put out on a table during
December and there are angel tags hanging all over it. Each
tag has a special request from a child of a prisoner with
a Christmas gift wish on it. Volunteers sign up to take tags
and buy the special wish for the child (cost limit applies)
which is delivered to the child on behalf of the parent. A
wonderful way to make Christmas wishes come true for the holidays
with a giving spirit.
